Our world is analog, it is a place of infinite possibilities and while that is amazing and fascinating it does not translate well into technology. Analog technology allows for all possibilities anything could be anything. Digital technology means that there are a set number of things that something could be. This difference is what makes history and technological advancements so interesting. Analog technology cannot account for the possibility of errors so it therefore cannot correct any errors no matter how small or large. Errors in analog build up unlike in digital where there is a finite number of things that something could be so errors can be fixed along the way. This can be seen in the differences between the analog and digital telephone. Analog telephones would pick up any and all electrons transmitted so when listening to a phone call there was lots of sound mixed in along with heat making the output chaotic and almost unrecognizable. Whereas with digital the phones only recognized the sound they were given there was nothing to get mixed in and confused about so the quality of the sound increased. This could be heard in quality where analog phones it was hard to understand a person digital phone you could tell who you were talking to by the sound of their voice. So despite living in the natural analog world, we as humans have chosen digital technology to improve our lifestyles.
A new difference between digital and natural is in the way we perceive colors! When looking at a printed photograph the colors are presented to your eyes in a way called reflection. This means that when you look at the colors you are preserving a color that is not being absorbed into the medium. For example, the color red is a culmination of all other colors except red so that when you look red is the color being perceived by your eyes. While digital images are being projected. This means that a digital image is projecting the color you see by mixing red, green, and blue to create the desired color and project it only a screen for your eyes to register. This difference is another example of how the digital and natural worlds differ drastically.
